Quality as a Core Process
Quality assurance at ŠKODA Auto is managed across five departments, each covering a different set of functions. One of these, the Vehicle Quality Management Department (GQG-3), focuses on testing pilot models in dozens of different configurations. Only when all functions meet strict requirements are the models approved for production. Testers perform approximately 50 tests on each vehicle.
The Initial Situation
Originally, testing results were recorded in Excel spreadsheets. Modification requests were shared via email or logged by team leaders in a separate tool. Before each test, multiple manual steps were required — such as selecting the right structure of test cases — while dozens of cars were tested each month.
The process was slow, and the existing method could not provide the critical data needed for operational and strategic quality management. ŠKODA Auto therefore required an IT solution to accelerate and optimize quality processes within a very short timeframe.

Instead of developing custom software, we leveraged Jira add-ons and script automation.
Testing cases were migrated from Excel into Jira. Team leaders now upload templates (e.g., vehicle operation, safety), which automatically generate test sets, assign them to testers, and feed results into reporting with a single click.
