Initial Situation
Medirex operates a network of diagnostic laboratories in Slovakia, processing 30,000 patient samples and providing 200,000+ test results to physicians every day. These healthcare records, laboratory analyses, and genetic tests require massive data capacity and continuous infrastructure growth.
By 2020, Medirex faced insufficient disk array capacity. The options were to upgrade legacy spinning-disk arrays or expand with additional systems. Medirex chose to extend the existing infrastructure.
Solution Design
IXPERTA recommended expanding capacity with Pure Storage all-flash solutions. Pure Storage provides simpler, more efficient, and flexible storage for data-intensive applications such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data analytics.
At Medirex, most storage demand comes from large volumes of laboratory results. To meet this demand, the Pure Storage X20R3-FC-22TB was selected.
Implementation
Phase 1 (2020): Initial Implementation
After installation and configuration, critical business applications were migrated to the new array. The migration, carried out within a fully virtualized infrastructure, was completed in around one month with no disruption to daily operations.
Phase 2 (2022): Storage Expansion
As data volumes continued to grow, Medirex expanded further, deploying two additional Pure Storage X20R3-ETH-33TB arrays, bringing total storage capacity to 50 TB.
